Lake Erie Crushers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Illinois - The Lake Erie Crushers stumble continued Saturday night against the Schaumburg Boomers in a crucial game. Schaumburg ace Kyle Arjona battled Paul Hall Jr. for the second time in six days. Both pitchers went deep into the ballgame and provided their respective clubs with an opportunity to win.
Schaumburg scored runs in each of the first three frames to give itself a comfortable lead in the beginning stages. In the first inning, an error by Lake Erie's Eric Callahan propelled the opportunity for Chase Dawson to come home and score. An infield groundout in inning number two gave the Boomers a 2-0 lead. A couple of runners dashed home in the bottom of the third for Schaumburg. Another groundout scored Brett Milazzo, and Dawson reached home on a base hit off the lumber of Clint Hardy.
Steve Passatempo recorded the only hit that would score a man in the contest for Lake Erie. He brought Brody Wofford home to score on an RBI single to left field in the fourth inning to cut into the Schaumburg lead.
The 4-1 Boomers advantage would prevail the rest of the way, giving themselves the series win and extending the Crushers winless streak to seven games.
Arjona showed out and got the victory at home to improve to 6-4 this summer. Seven innings on the mound complemented with a run allowed on five hits and five strikeouts. He handed out three free passes in his seven innings.
Hall Jr. matched Arjona with seven innings of work. A tough-luck loser in the middle game, Hall Jr. put up five strikeouts and four runs (three earned) on eight hits. His record now sits at 2-3.
Ryder Yakel came through with two innings of work, racking up his first save of the campaign.
Lake Erie left ten runners on base throughout the loss that proved to be a critical detail in the game.
Sunday's finale in Illinois will be a matinee, with the action getting underway at 2:00 pm EST.
