Colorado Crush News Release
Denver, Colo. - Colorado Crush (3-3) signed QB Andy Collins (6-2, 215, Occidental) on Tuesday as backup QB Brandon Kirsch (6-2, 213, Purdue) is placed on injured reserve.
Collins, a rookie in the AFL, was on the practice roster of the L.A. Avengers and had been seeing some time at linebacker recording two tackles in one start against Philadelphia on the season. Took part in mini camp with the NFL's New York Giants in 2007.
In college he was 491-of-745 (64.9 percent) for 6,394 yards and 71 touchdowns during his three-year career at Occidental College (Eagle Rock, Calif.). While with the Tigers, he never lost a conference game (18-0), led Occidental on a 26-game regular-season winning streak and advanced to the NCAA Division III West Region final in 2004. He was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 349 yards and four scores as a senior in 2006. Collins spent his freshman season at the University of Oregon (Eugene, Ore.) in 2003, before transferring to Occidental.
Kirsch was placed on IR as he awaits test results on his injured knee. Against Cleveland while saving a sure touchdown in the second half, Kirsch injured his knee and will be out at least the four weeks that are required once being placed on IR.
