BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch blanked the Binghamton Devils, 4-0, tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
Andy Andreoff paced the team with a goal and an assist, while Carter Verhaeghe, Mitchell Stephens and Boris Katchouk each potted a goal. The Crunch are now 32-17-3-2 on the season and take control of the North Division with 71 points. The team is also 8-1 in the 10-game season series against the Devils.
Crunch goaltender Eddie Pasquale stopped all five shots he faced before being relieved by Connor Ingram in the first period. Ingram went on to turn aside all 17 shots. Cam Johnson stopped 22-of-26 between the pipes for the Devils. Syracuse was unable to convert on three power play opportunities, but went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Crunch opened scoring with two quick goals in the first period. After receiving a pass from Brady Brassart in the neutral zone, Verhaeghe sped down the left wing and went top shelf as he cut across the slot.
The Crunch doubled their lead just 47 seconds later. Stephens won the faceoff in the left circle and cut towards the net to jam in the rebound from Nolan Valleau's point shot. Andreoff tallied the secondary helper.
Syracuse recorded another two-goal period during the middle stanza to build a 4-0 lead. Andreoff forced a turnover in the right circle and potted his 19th of the season 2:57 into the period. At the 17:54 mark, Katchouk grabbed the puck in the corner and scored from the bottom of the right circle.
The Crunch return to the War Memorial Arena to host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this Friday at 7 p.m.
