Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Crew announced today that it has signed Scottish midfielder Adam Moffat to a developmental contract. Per club and league policy, no further terms of the deal were disclosed.
Moffat, 21, comes to the Crew after leading the Cleveland City Stars to a 10-1-9 (39 pts.) record and a second-place finish in their inaugural United Soccer Leagues Second Division season. Moffat lead the team in scoring with eight goals and two assists in 19 appearances, and was rewarded for his play by being named to the United Soccer Leagues Second Division All-League First Team.
Moffat's previous stops include one-year stints at both Elgin City FC (2006) and Ross County FC (2005), both of the Scottish Football League. He notched seven goals in 29 total appearances with Elgin City FC during the 2006 season.
Moffat fills the developmental roster spot vacated by midfielder Danny Szetela, who was sold to Racing de Santander of the Spanish Primera Division (La Liga) on August 31.
Founded by American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, the Columbus Crew is Ohio's Major League Soccer club, anchoring a diverse sports and entertainment enterprise. One of the league's Charter Members and the U.S. Open Cup champion in 2002, it is currently in its 12th season overall and ninth in first-of-its-kind Columbus Crew Stadium.
