Central Valley Coyotes News Release

(Fresno, CA) – The Central Valley Coyotes announced today that they have removed the interim tag off Fred Biletnikoff Jr.’s title and have extended his contract through the 2005 season, Anthony Martinez, the team’s general manager announced today.

Biletnikoff Jr., 38, was promoted to interim head coach on June 7, when Cree Morris resigned as head coach.

“He [Biletnikoff Jr.] is a tremendous asset to this organization,” said Martinez. “He is a much respected coach around the Central Valley and he has earned the respect of the team and this organization in the job he has done thus far.”

Biletnikoff Jr. began his second season in the af2, having joined the Coyotes in January as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. His first stint with an arenafootball2 team was in 2002 with the Fresno Frenzy, where he served as an offensive assistant. Along with his Coyotes responsibilities, Biletnikoff Jr. will also continue to serve as offensive coordinator and running backs coach for the Fresno City Rams, where he has been since 2000. Since Biletnikoff Jr. has been at Fresno City College the Rams have posted a 38-6 record and have appeared in 3 Northern California Championship games.

“The Tachi-Yokut Tribe has truly blessed my family with this opportunity,” said Biletnikoff Jr. “I am grateful for every coach and player that I have worked with in my career. They have truly helped mold me into where I am today. I love Arena Football, Fresno and I will take this organization to the next level! This will be a different team next year!”

Before joining the Rams staff at Fresno City College, Biletnikoff Jr. spent two seasons (‘91-‘92) at Alameda High School coaching wide receivers and defensive backs. In 1993 he joined the football staff at Chabot College with current Coyotes defensive Coordinator Doug Murray, where he coached running backs, wide receivers and was also offensive coordinator.
