Central Valley Coyotes News Release

(Fresno, CA) – The Central Valley Coyotes announced today they have been assigned quarterback Johnny Turman from the arenafootball2 league office. Turman was selected as the af2 Rookie of the Year last season with the Charleston Swamp Foxes.

"I'm real happy to be back out here in California," said Turman. "Coach Morris gave me an opportunity to come out here and play, so I'm going to make the most of it. I had a good year out in Charleston and now I am looking to build on that for the 2004 season."

Turman, 6-5, 220 lbs., spent the beginning of the 2003 season with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League before joining the Charleston Swamp Foxes of the af2 in Week 4. While at Charleston, Turman finished the year with 3,138 passing yards and 63 touchdowns while completing 54 percent of his passes.

"He's a phenomenal athlete," said head coach Cree Morris. "Johnny knows the arena game and he knows what it takes to win, which is huge for our organization."

The Walnut Creek native also set an af2 single-game record with 51 pass attempts against Macon on June 21 and earned Week 11 Offensive Player of the Week honors by throwing for 283 yards and eight touchdowns against Norfolk.

Prior to joining the San Jose Sabercats, Turman spent time in the Pittsburgh Steelers` camp after a fine college career at the University of Pittsburgh. While splitting the starting duties at Pitt, he completed 211 of 406 passes for 3,290 yards and 28 touchdowns in his career.

The Coyotes will hold another open tryout in mid February for any athletes who were unable to attend the previous workout. Details on the tryout will be posted on Centralvalleycoyotes.com as soon as they become available.

The Coyotes will kickoff their 2004 season at the end of March and will play eight action packed home games at the Selland Arena. For information on season tickets please visit Centralvalleycoyotes.com or contact the Coyotes office at (559) 498-1182.
