Coyne's Walkoff Completes Dirt Dawgs' Comeback

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Sunday, June 30, 2013) The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs won 9-7 in walk off fashion Sunday night over the Pittsfield Suns, thanks to Joe Coyne's (St. Joesph's) two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.

"Huge walk off win for us tonight," said Dirt Dawgs Director of Baseball Operations, Scott Lettre. "The fans were really treated to a great game at Doyle Field today. Coyne came up huge and the team rallied to get this one."

The Dirt Dawgs (5-11) were in control of the game, until the Suns rallied in the seventh to plate six runs and take a 7-3 lead.

Wachusett never gave up though, starting their own rally in the eighth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston) drew a walk to bring home John Jennings (UMass Amherst).

Tyler McVicar (Elon) then took a pitch off the elbow, to bring home Austin Sistrunk (Lipscomb) and bring the Dawgs within two. Hot-hitting Nate Pajka (Bates) came up clutch with a two-run single to tie the game at seven.

Pitcher David Montiverdi (Dowling) held the Suns in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for Coyne's heroics in the bottom of the ninth. Coyne went 3-for-4 on the night with three RBIs and a walk.

Montiverdi earned the victory, moving 1-0 on the season with an ERA of 0.87.

Second baseman, Austin Sistrunk continued from where he left off last night, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Mike Geannelis (UMass Amherst) took the loss for the Suns (9-9). He moves to 1-2 on the season.

The Dirt Dawgs return to action tomorrow, looking to make it three wins in a row as the Raging Tide of Old Orchard Beach visit Doyle Field. First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
