Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso - The team opened the 2011 season on âLas Rocas Fabulous Friday' against the Portland Bucks at David Story Field. Grahamm Weist (Cal State Fullerton) started for the Black Bears, pitching three scoreless innings.
The offensive firepower came solely in the 2nd inning, when 10 Bears came to bat and plated all five of the team's runs. Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) led the inning off with a double, one of two on the night for Cowlitz as the team collected four hits and two walks in the inning off of Bucks starter Roman Lorentz.
The Bucks struck back with two runs in the 6th inning, both charged to Bears reliever Ryan Yuengel (University of Missouri). Christian Bannister made things interesting in the 9th when he walked the first two batters he faced, but recovered by getting Jonathan Lari to ground into a game-ending double play.
The next opponent for the Cowlitz Black Bears is the Portland Dukes. Game time is 6:35 on Saturday, June 4th. The game will be âApplebee's Saturday at the Park, along with Three Rivers Mall Magnetic Schedule Giveaway Night-where the first 500 fans receive a magnetic schedule. Also on the agenda is recognition for the players and coaches of the Western youth Baseball League.
