North Carolina Courage News Release

CARY, NC - In partnership with Syneos Health®, the North Carolina Courage, Raleigh Parks and The Bucy Foundation today announced they have launched a summer series of soccer clinics for local, underserved girls. The clinics will take place at mini pitches around the Triangle and will focus on improving soccer skills and while building character, confidence and sportsmanship.

"We are excited to be working with Syneos Health to offer these free clinics to local kids," said North Carolina Courage President Francie Gottsegen. "It is important for us to grow the game locally, particularly in communities that may not receive the same opportunities as others. These clinics will not only teach soccer skills to these girls, but also life skills. We look forward to having female leaders from Syneos Health as well as NC Courage players on site to assist with clinics both from a skills and leadership perspective."

The NC Courage and the Bucy Foundation are working to provide 25 free play soccer fields by 2025 by transforming unused or underused space to create safe, local places for people to play at no cost. The initiative will offer a mix of free unstructured and structured play opportunities and use the sport of soccer (and futsal) as a vehicle to help develop important life skills, drive economic activity, and build community.

"Since the pandemic, North Carolina has seen a radical decline in the number of girls participating in youth sports," said Ashlie Bucy from the Bucy Foundation. "As part of our mission to ensure everyone in the Triangle has access to safe and free places to play, we are focused on bringing girls back to the game. Through this partnership with Syneos Health, the NC Courage and Raleigh Parks, we are excited to show how soccer has the power to change not only individual lives, but entire communities."

"Syneos Health is committed to the communities where we live and work, and partnering with the NC Courage to host these clinics is a prime example of this dedication," said Lisa van Capelle, Chief Human Resources Officer, Syneos Health. "As a company that is 68% female, we are excited to have female executives and advocates partner alongside the NC Courage and participate in the clinics to share their experiences, leadership advice and address questions clinic participants may have, with the goal of making a positive impact on this young group of girls."

The clinics will start on June 16 at Peach Road Park at 4 p.m. Interested parties can get more information and register here.

The North Carolina Courage's home season will continue with a game against the Houston Dash on June 19 at 5 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park.
