California Cougars News Release

Stockton, CA - Jan. 25, 2008 - The California Cougars announce the signing of free agent midfielder Franck M'Bemba to a 15-Day / 5-Game contract. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal will not be released. M'Bemba's addition to the roster fills the vacant spot opened by the placement of midfielder Brian Farber to the injured reserved list. Farber is currently rehabbing a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

M'Bemba most recently played for Soccer Studio of the Premiere Arena Soccer League's South Central division. Soccer Studio won the PASL Summer National Tournament in 2007. M'Bemba was recently named to the 2008 PASL National All-Star team

His most recent Major Indoor Soccer League experience came with the St. Louis Steamers in 2004. He began that year with the Kansas City Comets before being traded to St. Louis in a deal that included current Cougars midfielder Craig Scheer.

M'Bemba, a native of the Republic of the Congo, has 24 career points with two two-point goals, 13 one-point goals and seven assists in 40 games played. He also accumulated six blocks in those 40 games played.

"Franck is an exciting player that our fans will enjoy watching," said Cougars head coach Bernie Lilavois. "I've played against him before and he looks as fit and as strong now as he did back then. We called him up because he's a good fit for our system and we needed to do something to fill our empty roster spot."

Midfielder Brian Farber has been placed on the injured reserved list. The Cougars are hopeful that Farber will return to the team on February 15, 2008 against the Chicago Storm.
