Laredo Bucks News Release

LUBBOCK, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks were defeated 2-1 by the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Thursday night as they began a three game road trip. Former Bucks goalie Lance Leslie beat the Bucks by stopping 28 of 29 shots. The Bucks have lost a franchise record five straight road games and are 6-9-1 with 13 points in third place in the SE Division. The Bucks are on the road Friday in San Angelo and Saturday in Odessa. Laredo returns home on Friday, December 10th, against the San Angelo Saints. Face off is set for 7:30 p.m. For Laredo Bucks season or single game tickets call (956)-718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com and buy tickets online.                        In a free flowing first period the Bucks tallied the only goal at 11:39. Bucks forward Adam Paiement squirted the puck into the Cotton Kings zone which forward Jeff Bes chased down, then he scored on a backhand shot from just inside the right circle that eluded Leslie high stick side. It was the ninth of the year for Bes. Laredo out shot Lubbock 13-9 in the frame.   The Cotton Kings tied the game just 66 seconds into the second period. Bucks goalie David Guerrera made a terrific save stopping Lubbock forward Matt Turek on a slam dunk try on the left post, but defenseman Derick Martin was there to swat in the rebound to square the game at one. Late in the period Guerrera tried to clear the puck up the wall, but Lubbock forward Jason Maxwell knocked it down then fed defenseman Stacey Bauman who scored on a screened wrist shot at 15:43 to give the Cotton Kings a 2-1 lead.   In the third period the Bucks appeared to tie the score when forward James Hiebert slammed in a rebound at 17:54. One big problem, the net was off the pegs and replays showed it clearly was off prior to the puck crossing the line. Confusion reigned at the arena as it was initially ruled a goal by the referee, but was overturned. FINAL SCORE Lubbock 2, Laredo 1.   Leslie stopped 28 of 29 shots to get the win and improve to 6-4-0. Guerrera allowed two goals on 27 shots and took the hard luck loss to fall to 4-6-1. The Bucks were 0-1 on the power play, while Lubbock was 0-3.
