New York (September 8, 2015) - The 2015 North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Champion New York Cosmos welcomed an opportunity to display their soccer skills alongside members of the Recruiting Station New York United States Marine Corps and Second Battalion 25th Marines of Garden City, NY, on Tuesday at Pier 86 adjacent to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan.

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime to thank the real heroes of our country, our military service representatives,'' NY Cosmos head coach Gio Savarese said. ``Our guys had a tremendous time interacting with the Marines on the USS Intrepid. It's something we will never forget."

New York City Commissioner of Veterans' Affairs Loree Sutton, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum President Susan Marenoff were on hand and received personalized NY Cosmos jerseys.

"I am delighted to join the Cosmos today as they will be honoring the military and our veterans on September 12th at their annual Heroes Game,'' Brewer said. `` I am also honored, as a Vietnam War family member, that they chose the Intrepid to host this event."

Members of the Cosmos and Marines teamed up to play a version of ``soccer tennis'' followed by a pickup game, both taking place on Pier 86 along the shadows of the USS Intrepid.

Currently, the Cosmos are atop the North American League (NASL) combined standings with a 10-9-2 (W-T-L) record and are riding a 17-game undefeated streak at home in all competitions. Their next home contest is against Jacksonville, 7 p.m. Saturday, September 12 at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium in Hempstead.

Tuesday started a week of the Cosmos saluting the U.S. Military. On Saturday, September 12 the New York Cosmos will pay tribute to active and retired military personnel, first responders and their families throughout the tri-state area with the 3rd Annual Heroes Night - Tickets for Troops dedication during the Jacksonville-NY Cosmos contest at 7 p.m. at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium in Hempstead. All active military that show their IDs at the box office will get complimentary admission.

By winning the 2015 Spring Season, the NY Cosmos have clinched a spot in an NASL Championship semifinal game. The postseason contest will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 7 at MCU Park on Coney Island in Brooklyn.
