Scorpions Host RailHawks on NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports
September 8, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
NEW YORK (September 8, 2015) - If the San Antonio Scorpions are going to defend their North American Soccer League (NASL) title, they need to begin their ascent up the standings tomorrow night, when they host the Carolina RailHawks at 8:30 ET on NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports.
Although the Scorpions sit in last place in both the Fall Season and Combined Standings, the Alamo City side is still only nine points off the pace for the final spot in The Championship, the league's four-team postseason tournament. Luckily for San Antonio, they will play host to a Carolina RailHawks side that is in the midst of a similar run of struggles.
Prior to last Friday's 2-0 win over the Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina was winless in its previous six encounters. Despite their dip in form, the RailHawks are still only five points behind the Tampa Bay Rowdies, whose 30 points in the Combined Standings give them the final spot in The Championship at the moment.
At Toyota Field on Wednesday night, the RailHawks will look to string together consecutive wins for the first time since the middle of the Spring Season. Colin Clarke's side faces a Scorpions team that has won just one of its last eight matches - most recently a 1-0 defeat at the hands of league-leading Ottawa Fury FC on Saturday.
Perhaps the hottest player between the two teams going into Wednesday's clash is RailHawks midfielder Nazmi Albadawi, who has found the net three times in his last two matches. Albadawi and his teammates will find themselves up against a tough goalkeeper in Daniel Fernandes, who has been impressive since joining the Scorpions on loan from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente.
The Scorpions and RailHawks would like to avoid shooting themselves in the foot, which has been a common theme for both sides lately. Red cards have harmed each club in recent weeks - in some cases occurring early in matches and giving opponents lengthy periods of time with a one-man advantage.
In addition to NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports, the network is home to, NASL This Week, a comprehensive 30-minute highlight show that airs every Tuesday night. Fans can tune into ONE World Sports from 6-6:30 p.m. ET tonight to catch highlights, interviews, and more from an eventful last week in the NASL.
