Dear Greetings!, We have some big news to report down here at the WWHQ, the World-Wide Headquarters of the Corvallis Knights in downtown Corvallis. Our 2017 schedule has been finalized, and tickets for the 11th season of Knights baseball at Goss Stadium will go on sale on Monday, Nov. 14. First, the schedule. The Knights will play 32 home games in 2017, 27 against West Coast League opposition and five against nonleague foes. We will host Port Angeles, Cowlitz, Bellingham, Victoria, Bend, Walla Walla, Kelowna, Gresham and Yakima Valley in league play. The home schedule begins on Wednesday, June 7 with a morning nonleague game against the Portland Sea Dogs on our sixth annual Science, Engineering & Art Day at Goss. Fireworks Nights are planned for June 24, July 3 and Aug. 6.. Season tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14. Knights add more players We've signed more players as we continue to build a contender for 2017 and our defense of our 2016 WCL championship. The newest additions are left-handed pitcher Cason Cunningham of Linfield College; lefty Tanner Cantwell of Treasure Valley CC; first baseman Dillon Shrum of the University of Nevada and lefty pitcher Austin Crowson of Lane CC. A graduate of Sheldon High School in Eugene, Cunningham was 5-1 with a 2.73 ERA in 13 games, with 66 strikeouts in 56 innings as a frosh. A 6-foot, 195-pounder who served in the Marines before enrolling at Linfield, Cunningham was a second-team Southwest Conference all-star as a senior and an honorable-mention choice as a junior. Cantwell is a graduate of Marist High School. He was 10-3 with a 2.03 in 15 games at TVCC in 2016, with 85 strikeouts in 75 innings. He also plays first base and hit .259 (15-58) in 25 games, with 13 RBIs. Shrum is a 6-foot, 200-pound right-hander from Granite Bay High School in El Cajon, Calif., who will be a freshman at Nevada. Crowson is a 6-5 sophomore lefty at Lane who played at Monroe High School. He was 6-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched in 10 games for the Titans in 2016. He then played for the Medford Rogues in the Great West League in 2016 and went 2-1, 1.77 in five games, with 15 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. Crowson was the state 2A/1A Player of the Year in 2015, helping the Dragons win the state championship, and then played for Bi-Mart Challengers American Legion team in Eugene. Signing 10-day contracts were junior utility man Brady Rediger of Linfield and junior infielder Kyle Esquerra of George Fox University. Rediger graduated from West Salem High School and is a two-year letterman. He hit .257 (18-70) in 24 games in 2016, with 10 RBIs. Esquerra, a Horizon Christian graduate from Tualatin, hit .387 (29-75) in 23 games in 2016, with 10 RBIs. Welcome to the team, guys. Aloha Knights alum Joe Guthrie named pro assistant Former Aloha Knight Joe Guthrie (1999), a volunteer coach at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, was named an assistant coach for the Scrapyard Dawgs, a professional softball team based in Conroe, Texas. He spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Penn State. From the 2014 to 2016 seasons, the Penn State hitters broke more than 30 school, Big Ten and NCAA records. Prior to his time at PSU, Guthrie spent six seasons as the head softball coach and assistant athletic director at Marion Military Institute, (NJCAA, Division 1), in Marion, Ala. He started the program from scratch and led the team to three NJCAA Region Tournament appearances. Every player in the program received a four-year college softball scholarship offer. Alum Cody Lenahan traded to Sioux City Alum Cody Lenahan (2013), an infielder in the independent American Association, was traded from the Texas Airhogs to the Sioux City Explorers earlier this month. He hit .264 (87-329) for Texas in 90 games in 2016, with 12 homers and 49 RBIs. Cody played at Portland and helped lead the Knights to the 2013 West Coast League championship. He was second-team all-WCL, a South Division All-Star, and was ranked as the WCL's No. 14 pro prospect by Perfect Game. Intern application We are now accepting internship applications for the 2016-17 school year! The internship roles will begin in December and continue through the end of August 2017. The deadline for applications is November 15th.
