
Correa homers as Astros knock off Royals 5-1

Greeneville, TN - Carlos Correa, the first overall pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros, hit his first home run as a member of the Greeneville Astros in a 5-1 win over the Appalachian League East division-leading Burlington Royals on Friday night at Pioneer Park. The Astros are now 31-26 as they battle the Johnson City Cardinals for playoff position.
The Astros first got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Back-to-back singles from Michael Martinez and Rio Ruiz were followed by consecutive fielding errors by Burlington to lead to the first Greeneville run. Then, Jose Monzon connected on a two-run single to put the Astros on top 3-0.
The next five innings went scoreless. Then, Burlington got a RBI-single from Humberto Arteaga in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Astros.
Greeneville answered in the bottom of the inning when Correa connected on a solo homer. Then, after Michael Martinez was hit by a pitch, Terrell Joyce ripped a line drive to left field for a RBI-double to make the score 5-1.
Daniel Minor gave up five hits and no runs with six strikeouts over six innings as he earned the win for Greeneville.
