Corpus Christi\'s Periard, Lubbock\'s Strome Close to 'Making the Cut'
December 14, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Corpus Christi defenseman Dominic Periard and Lubbock right winger Anders Strome are two of 18 finalists with an opportunity to win one of six National Hockey League try-outs on the Canadian reality show "Making the Cut". Over 4,000 participants tried out for the show, with just 68 selected to attend a special training camp in Vernon, British Columbia. That group of 68 has been trimmed to only 18, with Periard and Strome among those appearing tonight on the 13th and final episode.
The two-hour finale of "Making the Cut" will air live in Canada Tuesday night at 7:00pm CST on CBC. The General Managers of all six Canadian National Hockey League teams will be at the show's finale to select one player that they will invite to their next training camp. Participants received coaching, instruction and evaluation from numerous NHL executives during "Making the Cut", including Scotty Bowman and Mike Keenan.
"This is a great opportunity for me," said Lubbock's Strome, a 23-year old from Winnipeg who leads his club with 12 goals this season. "There were thousands who tried out for the show, 68 make it and now I am one of the 18 who made the final episode."
Quebec native Periard, 24, competed all summer long for the opportunity to become a finalist on the hit show. "We're very excited for Dominic and certainly wish him the best of luck in the final show," said Rayz General Manager, Larry Linde. "He's had a great season in Corpus Christi and showcased his ability. He has earned his position among the final 18 and we're definitely pulling for him."
Other current Central Hockey League players who appeared on "Making the Cut" were New Mexico right winger Ryan Power, Oklahoma City defenseman Jason Goulet and Lubbock center Bruno Lemire, all among the 68 invited to Vernon. Visit www.makingthecut.ca for additional information on the show, and results from this evening's final episode.
