Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release

ROBSTOWN - Call it a statement game. The Corpus Christi Hammerheads took advantage of 10 Odessa turnovers, including eight interceptions, and won big, 76-7. It was the most points scored by the Hammerheads this season and the fewest points surrendered by their defense. At the same time, the Hammerheads improved to 6-1 for the season.

It was a stellar night for the Hammerheads' defense. It was the first time in the team's history that they didn't allow a touchdown. Odessa's offense scored only three points off a field goal. Their other four points were scored on two safeties. The Hammerheads' picked off Roughnecks quarterback Dennis Gile eight times. Two of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Roy Salas returned an interception 34 yards for a TD and Wali Mumin return one 43 yards for a score. Mumin finished the game with three interptions and a handul of bone-jarring hits. Jason Lee had two interceptions. Johnny Anderson and Terrence Pearson also had picks. Corpus Christi's offense was all business as well. Quarterback Dustin Almond completed 18 of 30 passes for 225 yards and seven touchdowns. Nathaniel Dunn had two TD grabs of 10 and 33 yards. Schuyler Anderson, Johnny Anderson, Ed Giddings, Justin Hardman and Matt Ross caught touchdown passes. Hardman scored two touchdown runs of eight and 29.
