Odessa Jackalopes News Release
FRISCO, TX- In the first of twelve scheduled regular-season meetings between the two teams, the Odessa Jackalopes fell Friday to the Texas Tornado 5-2 at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas. With the loss, Odessa's seventh in a row, the Jackalopes fell to 3-9-2 overall this season and with eight points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings.
One game removed from a three-goal, four-point effort against Topeka, Odessa leading point-getter Lawrence Cornellier started the scoring for the Jacks, potting his team-leading 11th goal of the season on feeds from Ryan Doucet and Cody Slocum at 3:04 of the first period to stake the Jacks to a 1-0 lead. Texas tied the game at 3:31 of the first on a Louie Rowe goal, but Anthony Olguin put the Jacks back on top at 4:35 of the opening frame with his second goal of the season, assisted by Tyler Cayemberg and Zane Popilock.
The Jacks entered the second period with a slight edge, but the defending Robertson Cup Champion Tornado rattled off four unanswered goals the rest of the way, from Anthony Mousseau, Brent Heikkila, Brandon Platt and CJ Reuschlein respectively, to take down a 5-2 victory.
In his fourth start of the season, Odessa netminder Andrew Pikul stopped 32 of the 37 shots he faced en route to his fourth loss in net for the Jacks.
Next up for Odessa, it's a rematch with the Tornado on Saturday at 7:30 pm at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco.
