Casper Ghosts News Release
Chris Cook bailed out the Rockies defense on Monday Night at Mike Lansing Field in Casper. Cook tagged his 11th home run of the season for Casper, snapping a 2-2 tie for the Rockies in a 5-4 win over the Helena Brewers. The win was the Rockies second straight over the Pioneer League's top club.
Casper got a brilliant pitching performance from starter Chaz Roe. Roe worked six, one-hit, shutout innings but did not figure in the game's decision. Helena got onto the scoreboard in the 8th using two Rockies errors to tie the game. Pinch-hitter Kenny Holmberg hit a solo homer off of Rockies lefty Jay Metzger for the only earned run of the inning. Helena also rallied in the 9th with two runs off Brett Strickland, but left men at 2nd and 1st to end the night.
Strickland earned his 4th win for the Rockies, improving to 4-2. Simon Beresford lost for Helena, he is now 0-1.
With the win and Ogden's 2-1 loss to Great Falls, Casper is now in sole possession of first place in the South's second half race. Heading into Monday's game the Rockies also led the wildcard race in South by three games on Orem and five on Idaho Falls.
Casper and Helena continue their four game series with a 7:05 first pitch on another Casper Star Tribune Family Night. Fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and a game program for only $19.95. A pair of righties will throw with Alan Johnson working for Casper versus Tyler Morrison of Helena.
