Albany Firebirds News Release
ALBANY, NY â For the past two weeks, The Albany ConQuest and KISS FM 102.3 have been collecting stuffed teddy bears from the public, which in turn will be delivered to sick children at local hospitals throughout the Capital Region on Valentine's Day. The promotion, called "KISS for Kids" makes its last stop at the Halfmoon Wal-Mart tonight between 6-8pm.
So far the ConQuest and KISS FM have been at several different Wal-Mart locations, and have raised hundreds of teddy bears, bought by caring people who chose the bear while shopping at the store and dropped it into the teddy bear collection on their way out. Tonight will be the final appearance by the ConQuest and DJ Thomas, of KISS FM, in an effort to obtain more bears for the children in need.
There is no minimum cost to the bears, which range from three dollars to ten dollars, and people are also encouraged to bring a bear from home to donate if they choose. The ConQuest "Treasure" dance Team will be on hand for pictures and giving away prizes to all who donate a bear. ConQuest players and staff will also be handing out 2003 season information and taking season ticket orders throughout the event.
The ConQuest are getting set to defend their 2002 Northeast Division crown, while staying involved with the Albany community at all times. The af2's "Best Community Relations Program of the Year", the "Quest Kids", are close to making an announcement regarding title sponsors and partners for the 2003 season. The "Quest Kids" have entertained over 3,000 local children since its inception prior to last season.
Season tickets for the ConQuest 2003 season are available by calling 487-2222 or visit www.albanyconquest.com. The ConQuest will open defense of their crown on April 5th in Richmond (VA). The team's home opener is set for Friday, April 11th against the same Richmond Speed. Kickoff for all 2003 home games will be at 7:30pm with the "Tailgate on Pearl Street" taking place prior to each game.
