Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release

Fargo (ND) A junior A rookie, and another looking for a fresh start with the Fargo-Moorhead Jets can smile proudly after their first week with the Red River Valley's Junior A franchise.

Rookie forward Chris Connolly (Duluth, MN), and veteran goaltender B.J. O'Brien (Lakeville) -who spent last season with Central Texas - both earned Sher-wood, North American Hockey League player of the week honors, the league office announce today.

Connolly shared the offensive player of the week award with Karl Sellan of the Texas Tornado, after scoring three goals (two shorthanded), and adding a pair of assists. The rookie from Duluth-Marshall helped led the Jets to a season-opening two-game sweep of arch-rival Bismarck last week.

While Connolly provided an offensive punch, it was O'Brien who was stellar in net and relaxed fan's concerns over a completely new goaltending core for the Jets. Seeing his first action with the Jets, O'Brien stopped 87 of 88 Bismarck shots, to earn his first win in junior hockey (Sept. 16) and first shutout (Sept. 17).

The FM Jets are in the middle of an off-week following a two-game season opening sweep last weekend at Bismarck. The home opener is schedule for Sept. 30 at 7pm versus the Minnesota Blizzard.

The FM Jets are the 2005 Borne Cup Champions and are entering their third season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 30th year of operation.

Jets home games are played at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND. All games are broadcast at STAR 103.9 and fmjets.com.
