Odessa Jackalopes News Release

Odessa, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes would like to congratulate Conner Couet on reaching 100 NAHL games. The Jackalopes are a member of the North American Hockey League and play out of the Ector County Coliseum located in Odessa, TX.

Making it to triple digits in games played is an incredible feat. Many players must battle through injuries, getting moved around different teams, or even leagues. On top of all that it is never guaranteed that you will make a roster spot the following season. Meaning the off-season is just as important as the regular season. There are also hundreds of players across the globe trying to compete for a roster spot which means you must be at your very best. For Conner, that was something that he worked on well before reaching the junior hockey landscape.

Before reaching the NAHL, Couet spent two years (2018-20) playing for St. Michael-Albertville High (USHS-MN). In total, he played 50 games for them and tallied 45 points (36a). He finished in the top-five in points each season. From 2016-18, Couet played for the Skipjacks Hockey Club 16U AAA. He only played five games in his first year but followed that up by playing 25 (4g, 10a) the next year.

Couet started his NAHL career in 2019-20. He played for the St. Cloud Blizzard and Jamestown Rebels. He was originally drafted #112 overall in 2019 by the Brookings Blizzard. He played 14 games (2a) for the Blizzard before heading East to play for the Rebels. His time in Jamestown was short-lived as he only played four games for them (1a). The following year he went back to play ten games (1a) for St. Cloud. The St. Michael, MN native was then acquired by the Odessa Jackalopes. His first game in a Jacks jersey was on February 4, 2021, against Shreveport. He finished the 2020-21 season playing 31 games (1g, 4a) for the Jacks. His first NAHL goal came on March 5, 2021, versus Lone Star.

The 20-year-old is in his final year of junior eligibility and certainly making the most of it. He has played 41 games for Odessa this season and has registered eight points (2g). He is 17th on the team in points but has the fourth most for his position. The 6'2"/195lb. right-handed defenseman was selected by his teammates to be one of the three assistant captains for the 2021-22 campaign. Also, Couet was selected to be one of the four players from the Jacks to play at the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. This was the first time Couet has been selected for this event. The annual event held by the NAHL allows for players that are uncommitted the chance to showcase their skills in front of hundreds of NCAA DI and DIII scouts. On his first shift at Top Prospects, Couet went on an odd-man rush and was able to score the first goal for Team South. "It felt great, I knew I had to get the jitters out in the first shift," said Couet. He would also pick up an assist in the opening game and leave the Top Prospects Tournament with two points.

Couet had this to say about playing in his 100th NAHL game, "It's awesome to be able to hit 100 games. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I would play 100 more if I could." There are still 17 games left in the regular season for Odessa and they are currently in a playoff spot. Meaning Couet still has a lot more chances to lace up the skates before he walks away from junior hockey for good.
