Command Overlooked in Preseason Coaches Poll

March 11, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Kansas City Command News Release

As the team prepares to make its first appearance on the field vs. Dallas, The KC COMMAND did not make an appearance in the top ten of the preseason coaches poll conducted by the Arena Football League. With the level of competition expected this season being extremely high, the team's management was not planning on being ranked towards the top of the list, but the absence from the top ten was noted.

The team's assessment of this poll's results attributes them to ‚¬Å“safe bets ‚¬Â and ‚¬Å“conventional wisdom ‚¬Â, which is bared out by the rankings themselves. The perennial powerhouses from the old AFL, Philadelphia and San Jose, made the top four with Arena Bowl champions Spokane reigning at the top of the list. KC, however, is effectively in its first year as an organization with new leadership.

‚¬Å“We certainly don ‚¬â„¢t take offense to not being in the poll. Not being named means that we can take them by surprise. We will use this to help motivate us to show the league what Kansas City is all about. ‚¬Â President Pete Likens said.

Also indicated by the poll is the degree to which the COMMAND will be put to the test right from the start of the season, with its first three games being on the road. Two of their opponents are at the top of the poll; its second place finisher, San Jose, and its first, Spokane.
