Kansas City Comets News Release
Brian Soell, 25, looks to start his third season in the MISL this fall. Last season, Soell played in every game except the season opener and recorded 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points. He recently answered a few questions for Comets Weekly.
Q: What have you been doing in the off-season?
A:I've been working at the Comets summer soccer camps here
and there and have visited the Lake of the Ozarks with my family and
friends. Earlier in the summer, I entered a fishing tournament at the Lake
called the "Italian Invitational." I placed fifth and also won the "Big
Bass" prize for catching the biggest fish in the tournament.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?
A: Well, I really enjoy traveling in the summers, but when
I'm in Kansas City, I like to hang out on the Plaza.
Q: What are you doing to stay fit?
A: I've been running and working out three to four days a
week. I'm staying healthy.
Q: What was your favorite memory from last season?
A: My favorite memory was getting a hat trick in my first
game of the season [Oct. 18 versus the Monterrey Fury] and then receiving
the MISL Offensive Player of the Week award for the first time in my
career.
Q: What goals do you have for the 2004-05 season?
A: My goal is to win the championship. That's the only goal
I've got.
CONCACAF Futsal Championship set for this week
The eight-team CONCACAF Futsal Championship will be played July 23 through July 31 in Heredia, Costa Rica. The tournament will qualify two nations to the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championships, which will be held in Chinese Taipei beginning in November of 2004. Comets Jamar Beasley, Brian Soell and Matt Tanzini played for the U.S. National Futsal Team in various matches held earlier this summer.
The United States was placed in Group B with Guyana, Panama and Cuba.
This tournament's championship game will be played July 31, and no matter the outcome, both teams will qualify for the World Championships. The U.S. team looks to repeat its CONCACAF championship performance from 1996. The last CONCACAF qualifier was held in 2000. Guatemala claimed that championship.
