Soell, Tanzini score big in Anaheim

While playing for the U.S. National Futsal team last weekend, Comets Matt Tanzini and Brian Soell helped the stars & stripes continue its unbeaten streak against CONCACAF rival Mexico at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Soell scored the third goal on Friday, June 9, as the United States cruised to a 3-1 win. The next night, Tanzini brought the team back as he scored the equalizer in the second half. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. The U.S. National Futsal team has not lost to Mexico in six international matches.
Both the United States and Mexico will compete at the 2004 CONCACAF Futsal Championship from July 23-31 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Heredia, Costa Rica. In the tournament, the USA will be placed in Group B with Cuba, Guyana, and Panama. The eight-team CONCACAF Final Round will qualify two nations to the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championship, to be held in Chinese Taipei from Nov. 21- Dec. 5. Upcoming Appearances
Join the Comets for a soccer movie!

Comets Vlatko Andonovski and Miki Djerisilo will be attending a screening of the film "Shaolin Soccer" on Saturday, July 17 at the Screenland Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. The theater is located just minutes away from Kemper Arena at 1656 Washington St. Click here for a map to Screenland. The movie begins at 3 p.m., but the players will be available starting at 2 p.m. to sign autographs and meet and greet fans.
Here's a review of the movie from Amazon's Bret Fetzer: "Computer generated special effects have seldom been so giddy as in Shaolin Soccer, a gleeful fusion of kung fu and a classic Bad News Bears sports story. A former soccer star--whose "golden leg" was broken by a hired mob--assembles a team of former students of Shaolin martial arts, whose assorted skills (indicated by their nicknames, like Mighty Steel Leg and Iron Head) lend themselves to the swift interplay of the world's most popular game. Along the way, the team's leader (Hong Kong comic superstar Stephen Chow) meets a sticky bun baker (Vicki Zhao) whose kung fu is the equal of any of his teammates. Shaolin Soccer is supremely silly--in the final match, their opponents are called Team Evil--but that's part of the fun. American movies rarely achieve this perfect balance of the absurd and the sincere."
The movie is rated PG-13 for action violence and thematic elements. For more information on Screenland Theatre, visit Screenland's Web site. To see a movie trailer of "Shaolin Soccer," visit the movie's Web site.
