Kansas City Comets News Release
Keeping up with the Comets! This week: Matt Tanzini
Matt Tanzini scores game-winning goal for the Harrisburg City Islanders
During the MISL's off-season, Comets defender Matt Tanzini has been sharpening his soccer skills with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the Pro Soccer League (PSL). Tanzini helped the Islanders defeat the PDL's Reading (PA) Rage on Saturday night after he scored the game-winning goal from almost 30 yards out in the 17th minute of the match. The Islanders went on to win 5-1 and improved to 3-2-2 on the season. With 11 points, the Islanders are now second in the Atlantic Division.
Tanzini returned to the east coast to play soccer with another team in Harrisburg after he was a member of the Harrisburg Heat for two seasons. Although a notch below the A-League in the USL, the PSL maintains an exciting level of play and features up-and-coming soccer stars. Below the PSL is the the Premier Development League (PDL), which gives college soccer players 23 and under the opportunity to play in the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
In a solid 2003-04 season with the Comets, Tanzini scored 13 goals and assisted on 11 others for a total of 24 points. He played in 34 of 36 games and blocked 37 shots, which tied him with Casey Barton for the third-highest block total for the Comets.
Upcoming Appearances! Comets All-Star defender Vlatko Andonovski will appear at the RE/MAX Galaxy Real Estate office in Overland Park on Saturday, June 12 for the "School's Out for the Summer Block Party." The fundraiser was established to encourage, educate and entertain local children and parents while raising money to benefit Children's Mercy Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network.
Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping hospitalized kids in 170 hospitals throughout North America. One hundred percent of the locally generated donations will stay in the community at Children's Mercy Hospital.
The event will feature games (a moon walk and dunk tank), food (popcorn and cotton candy), prizes (from Oceans/Worlds of Fun, Blockbuster, AMC Movies) and much more! Stop by to get an autograph from Vlatko and stay for the fun!
The event starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m.
