Kansas City Comets News Release

Comets forwards Jamar Beasley and Brian Soell are members of the U.S. National Futsal Team that defeated the Honduran National Team 5-1 on Tuesday night at U.S. Cellular Arena. A rematch will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. The team with the most total goals will advance to the eight-team CONCACAF Futsal Championship to be played in Costa Rica in late July.

Beasley assisted on the first goal, which was scored by Lee Edgerton (Cleveland Force) during the sixth minute. Other goals were scored by Johnny Torres (Milwaukee Wave), Greg Howes (Milwaukee Wave), Joel Shanker (Philadelphia KiXX) and Danny Kelly (Baltimore Blast).

Soell did not appear in Tuesday's match.

Futsal is the international version of indoor soccer that is played with four field players and a goalkeeper on each side. The court is not contained by walls and is slightly bigger than a basketball court. In addition to futsal tournaments, CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) is responsible for organizing competitions between national teams and clubs, including the FIFA World Cup and FIFA world championships.

The other two match-ups in the Northern Zone preliminary round are between Canada and Panama and Mexico and El Salvador. The three winners will join up with the national teams from Costa Rica, Cuba, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Surinam in late July in Heredia, Costa Rica. Following that round, CONCACAF will send the top two national teams to the FIFA Futsal World Championships that will be held November 22 through December 12 in Chinese Taipei.
