Kansas City Comets News Release


The Kansas City Comets dropped two important road games this weekend, losing to the Baltimore Blast 15-7 on Friday night, and to the Philadelphia Kixx 13-8 Saturday night. With the losses, Kansas City is now 11-12 on the season.

Baltimore started the scoring on Friday night, as Sean Bowers nailed a shot past Comets goalkeeper paolo Ceccarelli at 6:33 of the first to take the Blast up, 2-0. Giuliano Celenza built the Blast lead to four early in the second, before Kansas City's Miki hit a three-pointer at 2:51 of the period to tighten the game back up. Lee Tschantret and Rich Daughtridge scored two more in succession for Baltimore, before back-to-back goals by Dino Delevski in the third quarter brought the Comets back within one. Baltimore surged in the fourth, however, with three consecutive goals, including a three-point, empty net goal at 13:36, to finalize the score.

Ceccarelli took the loss in goal, stopping 14 of 20 shots faced. Brett Phillips got the win, stopping 20 of 23 shots.

On Saturday, Kansas City continued on to Philadelphia, to face the defending champion Kixx. Kansas City scored first, off a goal from Nicola Corneli at 1:10 of the game, before Philly tied it up at 2:26 of the second.

Nino DaSilva, back from his one-game suspension, contributed next, at 11:55 of the second, to take the Comets into halftime ahead, 4-2. Philadelphia surged in the third, scoring three straight goals to take a four point lead by the end of the quarter, before Dino Delevski and Jeff Davis tied it back up less than two minutes into the final frame. It was all Philly after that, however, as Joel Shanker and Shawn Boney each nailed a goal, for a final score of 13-8, Philly.

Ceccarelli againtook the loss in goal, stopping 17 of 22 shots faced. Peter Pappas got the win, with 14 saves on 18 attempts.

Kansas City will continue on the road this coming weekend, as they will visit Cleveland to take on the Force on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 2:05 PM CST, and the game can be heard live on KCKN 1340 AM.
