Comets Waive Three Players

HOUSTON – The Houston Comets announced today that the team has waived guard/forward Octavia Blue, guard Jenni Dant and guard Nicky McCrimmon.

Blue (6-1, Miami ‘98) finished her second season with the Comets in 2004, averaging 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 13 games. Overall, she has averaged 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds in 59 career games with the Los Angeles Sparks (30 games) and Houston (29 games). Blue originally signed as a free agent with Houston on May 1, 2003.

Dant (5-10, DePaul ‘05), who was the Comets third-round pick (28th overall) in the 2005 WNBA Draft, averaged 13.4 points, 2.8 assists and 2.20 steals in four seasons at DePaul. She was a three-time All-Conference USA honoree, twice collecting Second-Team accolades (2003, 2005) and one Third-Team selection (2004). Dant was the first player in DePaul history with at least 1,500 points (1,633), 300 assists (343) and 250 steals (269).

McCrimmon (5-8, USC ‘94) re-signed with the Comets on March 18, 2005. She originally signed as a free agent with Houston on February 6, 2004, before being waived by the Comets on May 6. Selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round (63rd overall) of the 2000 WNBA Draft, McCrimmon holds career averages 2.3 points and 1.7 assists in 125 games with the Sparks. McCrimmon has also averaged 1.4 points and 1.1 assists in 23 career playoff games with Los Angeles, helping the Sparks capture back-to-back WNBA Championships in 2001 and 2002.
