Comets to Appear at Shawnee Mission Community Family Fun Fest

All Shawnee Mission elementary school students and their families are being invited to attend an Enjoy the GameÒ Family Fun Fest to be held at Shawnee Mission Medical Center on Sunday, September 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

The Fun Fest is sponsored by Dodge, Sonic Drive-ins, Kansas City Comets, Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Enjoy The Game and is scheduled to offer the following fun events and activities (a flyerfor the event is being distributed by the schools this week) . . .

· Bill Elliott's #9 Dodge Winston Cup Car on display and roaring

· The Comet's Galaxy Girls will perform in-person

· Sonic's Giant Inflatable Obstacle Course with Cherry Limeade

· Comet's Accuracy Kick Contest with special prizes

· Enjoy The Game presentation with Fuzzy the Cosmic Cat

· Local Police & Fire Department Officers doing safety seat checks

· Drawings for 2003 Comets team autographed soccer balls

· Face Painting and Free Comets game vouchers

· Free Health Screenings for Mom & Dad

· Free food coupons, balloons and prizes

This event is being held as an official kick-off for the 2003-2004 Enjoy The Game program being implemented by all Shawnee Mission School District Physical Education teachers. This program is a character-development program that teaches students in the context of games the importance of respect, self-control, cooperation and doing what's right. While this is the 2nd year Shawnee Mission has used Enjoy The Game, the program is currently being used in over 400 Kansas City area public elementary/middle schools.

Enjoy The Game is a national character-based education company headquartered in Blue Springs, Missouri. In addition to this Elementary/Middle School Program, they offer Sportsmanship Education Programs for high schools and youth sports leagues. In the Kansas City area alone, nearly 50 high schools and 10 youth sports organizations are encouraging players, parents, coaches and fans to Enjoy The Game.
