Kansas City Comets News Release

KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets announced today that defender, Kyle McLagen has signed a one-year contract with the club. Per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

McLagen, son of former Comets star, Doug McLagen is a local product out of Lee's Summit, MO, who played high school soccer at Rockhurst. Kyle was named Kansas City Star All-Metro and MSHSAA Player of the Year. He led Rockhurst to a Missouri Class AAA state title as a senior and was selected to Choice Hotels All-America squad.

"Kyle grew up being a part of this team and his dad was one of Kim's (Roentved) assistants when Kyle was a young boy," said Head Coach, Leo Gibson. "As someone who watched Kyle play in high school, it's wonderful to see how his discipline and dedication have helped him become a smart, professional athlete.

Collegiately, McLagen earned first team All-Southern Conference in 2016 during his senior campaign at Furman University in Greenville, SC. Since graduating in 2017, McLagen has been playing professionally in Denmark for two years, followed by a six-month stint in Iceland.

"Having the opportunity to play for the Comets is exciting for me," said McLagen. "Guys like Danny Waltman, Vahid Assadpour and Leo Gibson used to come to my high school and help me and my teammates train. Now, getting the chance to play with and for Coach Gibson, plus the fact that my dad played for the Comets, makes it even more special. I can't wait for my family and friends to see me play."

The Kansas City Comets 2020-21season kicks off Saturday, December 19th at Cable Dahmer Arena (formerly Silverstein Eye Centers Arena). Season tickets are on sale now and group tickets will be on sale later this fall. For the latest news and information, visit KCComets.com and follow the team on Facebook, Instagram and twitter.
