Kansas City Comets News Release
The Comets are at home tomorrow (Sunday), January 16th at 3:10 p.m. at the Independence Events Center for a pivotal game against the Omaha Vipers. The Comets will be looking for their third win in a row after a road victory against the Wave on New Year's Eve and last Friday's home win against the Chicago Riot. The first 1,000 kids in attendance will receive a Danny Waltman playing card courtesy of Shocking Prices.
With Omaha's 21-6 loss last night to the hands of the first place Milwaukee Wave, the game tomorrow afternoon between the Comets and Vipers is for 3rd place in the MISL standings. The Vipers won at the Comets 14-10 on November 19th, while the Comets won 12-11 at Omaha on a last minute goal on November 21st.
Omaha's Carlos "Chili" Farias is 2nd in the MISL in scoring with 32 points. Comets' forwards Byron Alvarez (26 points) and Jamar Beasley (23 points) are the #3 and #5 scoring leaders. Comets' Leo Gibson leads the league in assists with nine, and is tied with Farias for the most 3-point goals with three. The Comets, as a team, lead the league by a "long shot" in 3-point goals, with nine. Three other teams are tied with the next most 3-pointers with four.
Comets Retro Night: Some former, familiar Comets greats will be honored at halftime of the Friday, January 28th game against the Milwaukee Wave at the IEC. Alan Mayer, Gino Schiraldi, Clive Griffiths, Doug Neely, Ted, Eck, Gordon Hill and other former Comets players will be on hand. Comets players will be playing in replica jerseys of the iconic rainbow-striped uniforms worn during the team's inaugural 1981-1982 season.
