Kansas City Comets News Release

Next Game: The Comets next game is this Sunday in Chicago against the Riot at 7 p.m. This will be the third meeting of the season between these two teams and the first in the Windy City. The series is tied one game apiece, with both games taking place at the Independence Events Center. The previously scheduled game in Chicago on December 12th was postponed due to inclement weather. The Comets' next home game is Sunday, February 20th against the Chicago Riot. The Comets will be having a special "Kickin' It for the Cure" night at the IEC in which the players will be wearing special, pink jerseys that will be auctioned-off following the game with partial proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Last Weekend: The Comets dropped two games over the weekend. After leading most of the way Friday night against the Wave, the Comets lost a 17-16 nail-biter in front of a near-sellout crowd at the Independence Events Center. The Comets then lost 16-10 at Omaha for the first time this season Sunday afternoon. It was the first loss by the road team so far in the five game series.

Replica Jersey Auction Raises Money for the Dalton Foundation: Friday night, the Comets had a very special Retro Night and halftime Reunion Game consisting of many former Comets and Kansas City Attack stars. The current Comets team wore replica jerseys from the 1981-1982 inaugural season, and then auctioned-off the jerseys immediately following the game. Partial proceeds from the retro jersey auction, plus the honorary coaching spots auction for the Reunion Game benefitted the Dalton Burner Foundation. The team has announced that there will be a check presentation to Dalton and the Foundation on the field at halftime of the February 20th game against Chicago.

Comets Partner with Citizens Bank: Last week, the Comets announced a three-year partnership agreement with Citizens Bank and Trust. The agreement brings Citizens Bank and Trust front and center with one of Kansas City's most electrifying sports franchises. As the official sponsor of the Comets, the Citizens Bank and Trust logo will be displayed prominently on the team's home and away jerseys, as well as on the Comets' MISL field at the Independence Events Center. Another major component to the partnership is CB&T's sponsorship of Comets' goalkeeper, Danny Waltman, and his "Danny Saves" program which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas City. For every save Danny makes for the remainder of the 2010-2011 season, as well as the 2011-2012 & 2012-2013 seasons, Citizens Bank and Trust will donate $5 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas City.

Training Schedule: After a home game on Friday and a road game Sunday, the Comets players had the day off Monday. They resume practice Tuesday through Friday at the KC Soccer Dome from 9:00-11:30 a.m.

Comets Leaders: With 2 goals and 2 assists on Friday night, and 2 goals and an assist on Sunday, Comets' forward Byron Alvarez (49 points) became the MISL's scoring leader. Forward Jamar Beasley (38 points), remains as the #5 scoring leader. Comets' Leo Gibson is 2nd in the league for most 3-point goals with 4. The Comets as a team lead the league by a "long shot" in 3-point goals, with eleven. Baltimore and Milwaukee are tied for the 2nd most 3-pointers with eight.
