Kansas City Comets News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets (3-5) host the Orlando Seawolves (1-5) Friday at 7:05 P.M. at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Comets are trying to snap a two-game losing streak, while the Seawolves are attempting to back up their first win of the season with another.
Friday will be Orlando's first game of the year, having not taken the field since a Dec. 22 win over the Baltimore Blast. That game stopped a give-game skid to start the season. The injury-stricken Comets are looking for their first win of 2020. Their last came Dec. 29, 9-2 over the Tacoma Stars. Since, they've fallen by one on the road at St. Louis and at home against Milwaukee.
Friday also marks the first meeting of the season for Kansas City and Orlando. They last tussled in March, with the Comets clinching a playoff berth with a 7-6 win in Florida. Kevin Ellis led the way with two goals. Friday will be his second appearance of the year, as he joined the Comets midseason.
The Comets continue to face injury challenges, with midfielder Lucas Rodriguez and defender Stefan Stokic out for Orlando. Stokic picked up his first goal of the season against Milwaukee and amongst league leaders in blocked shots with 15.
Kansas City still fields two statistical leaders in Leo Gibson, fifth in points with 19, and Robert Palmer, third in the league in blocked shots with 15.
Orlando is led in goals by Luiz Mota with four, in assists by former Comet Odaine Sinclair and Rodolfo Lopes with two each. Sinclair spent two seasons in Kansas City, playing in 40 games with the Comets. He was the 2013 Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Ambush.
