Kansas City Comets News Release


Next Game: The Comets next game is at home on Wednesday, December 29th at 7:35 p.m. at the Independence Events Center against the undefeated Baltimore Blast, who are a half game out of first place, behind the Milwaukee Wave. The Blast won the previous meeting between the two teams by a score of 13-12 on December 11th; a game in which the Comets led after 3 periods. The Comets will then hit the road for a 2p.m. New Year's Eve Day game against the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, December 31st.

Last Game: The Comets lost a back-and-forth battle against the visiting Chicago Riot 14-13 on Sunday, December 19th. The win was the Riot franchise's first after losing their first four games of the season. The Comets spread their scoring around with six different players finding the back of the net. Leo Gibson was named the Comets Player of the Game by assisting on three of the team's six goals. The loss leaves the Comets with a record of 1-5.

Training Schedule: The Comets train today and Thursday at the KC Soccer Dome from 9-11:30a, then Monday-Wednesday from 8:30-10:30a at the Independence Events Center.

Comets Leaders: Comets forwards Leo Gibson and Byron Alvarez are at the top or near the top of the following MISL scoring categories: Total Points (goals + assists): Gibson is tied for second with 18 points. Goals Scored: Alvarez is tied for 4th with six. Assists: Gibson is tied for 1st with seven.

Injury Update: Forward, Mirsad Dzilic, Defender, Stefan Stokic and Levi Coleman are all listed as "Out" for the December 29th game against the Blast. Listed as "Questionable" are Midfielder, Lucas Rodriguez and Defender, Nate Houser.

Comets Player Appearances: Today (Dec. 22nd): Vahid Assadpour, Shawn Dastan and Leo Gibson will be at Duncan Academy Elementary in Oak Grove teaching soccer skills to the kids at the school's after-school program from 1-3p. Matt Harris, Matt Iverson and Mirsad Dzilic will be at Sunset Elementary in Lee's Summit teaching soccer skills to a boy's youth soccer club. Tomorrow (Dec. 23rd): Vahid Assadpour and Shawn Dastan will be at Fun House Pizza in Lee's Summit from 6-8p.

Comets Youth Soccer Camp & Goalkeeper Camp: Comets will also be hosting a special winter Youth Soccer Camp for boys and girls ages 6-13 to be held on the field at the Independence Events Center on Tuesday, December 28th and Wednesday, December 29th. Each camp participant receives specialized instruction from Comets players and coaches, a camp T-shirt, and a ticket to the December 29th game. The Comets will also be holding a special goalkeeper camp on the 27th and 28th with Comets' goalkeepers, Danny Waltman and Boris Pardo, along with Columbus Crew goalie, Andy Gruenebaum, and Sporting KC goalie, Jimmy Nielson. All Camp participants get to play in a 10 minute scrimmage at halftime of the Comets' December 29th game.

Comets Downloadable Mobile App: The Comets this week unveiled the team's new mobile app, now available for Android and iPhone mobile devices. Developed by Moblico, a Kansas City-based company, the app will keep Comets fans up-to-date with all the latest team news, stats and player information. The new Comets mobile app can be downloaded from the Android Market, iTunes App Store or by visiting www.moblico.com/apps/comets.

Comets Partner With Sports Nutz to Sell Team Apparel: The team also announced this week that fans can now find Comets merchandise at both Sports Nutz locations in the metro area: at The Legends at Village West in Kansas City, KS, and at the Ward Parkway Shopping Center in Kansas City, MO.

Tickets: Comet single game tickets can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com. Groups and youth soccer teams can also "Play Like the Comets" on the field before every Comets home game.
