Comets Extend Series with OT Win against Devils

ALBANY, NY -- The Albany Devils will have to wait at least one more game to secure their spot in the Division Finals after a 2-1 overtime loss against the Utica Comets during Game 3 Tuesday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Alexandre Grenier scored the game-winning goal at 9:13 of the extra frame after his linemate Mike Zalewski forced a turnover behind the Devils net.
The tally extended the series and Game 4 will be Thursday at Utica. The Devils, who have yet to lose to Utica in regulation in 17 all-time meetings (regular season or playoffs), are trying to advance to the second round for the first time in club history.
Tuesday's game was just the second Calder Cup Playoff overtime contest in the Devils' 10-year history. The first came while the franchise was located in Lowell, MA. The team lost, 3-2, at the Worcester Sharks on Apr. 15, 2010.
Scott Wedgewood, who entered the contest on a four-game winning streak, made 28 stops. Mike Sislo was responsible for Albany's tally. Damon Severson and Reid Boucher posted the assists. Boucher now has points in eight consecutive AHL games, dating back to Jan. 13. He has tallied eight goals and four helpers during that span.
Utica netminder Joe Cannata, who did not start Games 1 or 2, made 27 saves. Jordan Subban had the Comets' other goal.
Like Game 2, the Comets got on the board first. Subban walked the puck down the right wall and sent a shot high over Wedgewood's shoulder. The puck deflected off the post, off the netminder's back and over the goal line at 12:36.
Before the end of the period, Sislo answered with a power-play goal at 17:11. The play was reminiscent of nearly all of Sislo's league-leading 14 power-play goals during the regular season -- a one-timer from the left circle.
