November 25, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Kansas City Comets News Release
Kansas City, MO â The Kansas City Comets announced on Thursday the signing of forward Juan Antonio Cabeza to a three-year agreement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Comets have also re-instated forward Dino Delevski to the active roster after the reigning MISL Most Valuable Player served a one-week suspension. And the team announced that midfielder Ryan DiNunzio (who was placed on waivers), defender Sammy Ekeme (whose 15-day/five-game contract was not renewed), and forward Goran Karadzov (who was suspended indefinitely and has left the team) have been dropped from the roster.
Cabeza, 25, most recently played for the prestigious First Division club Colo-Colo (2000-2002) in Chile. Prior to that, Cabeza spent time with Chilean clubs Ohiggin's de Rancagua (1996-98) and Deportes Linares (1999). He made his First Division debut at the age of 18 with Ohiggin's de Rancagua.
In addition, the 6-2, 180-pound target player excelled at every level of youth competition in Chile, from U-14 to U-23.
Cabeza, a duel citizen of Argentina and Chile, is awaiting approval of his visa and could be available to make his Comets debut on Friday, November 28, when Kansas City hosts the Philadelphia KiXX (6:05 p.m.). More likely, he will make his first appearance when the Comets travel to Monterrey on Friday, December 5.
"We feel that Juan will be able to make a smooth transition to the indoor game and give us another viable scoring option," said Comets Head Coach and General Manager Zoran Savic. "He's got the necessary physical ability and an understanding of the game."
Kansas City currently ranks third in the League offensively, averaging 6.7 goals per game.
Following this Friday's game, Kansas City will embark on a three-game road swing that will take the team to Monterrey (December 5), Dallas (December 7), and Baltimore (December 13) before they come home to face Milwaukee on December 14.
