Comets 2006 WNBA Draft Day Information

HOUSTON - The three-round 2006 WNBA Draft will be held on Wednesday, April 5, beginning at 12 p.m. (CDT). ESPN2 will televise the first round live from Boston, MA, which marks the first time the Draft will take place outside of the NBA Entertainment Studios in Secaucus, NJ. NBA TV will provide live coverage of the second and third rounds. In addition to the live television coverage, WNBA.com will present fans with comprehensive news and analysis of the entire draft. Representatives of all 14 teams will partake in the draft via conference call.

The Minnesota Lynx own the first overall selection in the draft by virtue of winning the WNBA Draft Lottery held on October 24, 2005. The Phoenix Mercury will pick second and the Charlotte Sting, last year's winner of the WNBA Draft Lottery, has the third selection. The San Antonio Silver Stars and Los Angeles Sparks have the fourth and fifth picks, respectively.

Some of the top players eligible for this year's draft include: Seimone Augustus (LSU), Monique Currie (Duke), Megan Duffy (Notre Dame), Candice Dupree (Temple), Cappie Pondexter (Rutgers), Ann Strother (UConn) and Sophia Young (Baylor).

(24th overall)
