Come Meet Former Tiger Dick McAuliffe

NORWICH-Connecticut native and former Detroit Tiger Dick McAuliffe will meet and great fans on Sunday, August 29 when the Tigers take on the Brooklyn Cyclones at 1:05 p.m. McAuliffe was born in Hartford, resides in Farmington, CT; and played 16 years in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1960-1973) and Boston Red Sox (1974-1975). He won the World Series in 1968 as the starting second baseman for the Tigers and led the American League in runs scored that year with 95, also finishing seventh in the voting for American League MVP.

The gates will open at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday with the rescheduled date for "Turn Back the Clock Day" at Dodd Stadium. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Benedict Arnold Bobblehead sponsored by the New London County Historical Society. The Thames Valley Base Ball Club will play a special base ball game according to 1861 rules from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.

The Tigers return home to face the Brooklyn Cyclones, the New York-Penn League affiliate of the New York Mets beginning Saturday, August 28 at 7:05 p.m. in game one of a six-game home stand.
