Columbus Secures Road Win Over Florida, 110 - 100

FORT MYERS, Fla., December 2- 2004 NBDL first round draft pick Ricky Minard scored a season high 33 points and grabbed ten rebounds in Columbus' 110-100 win over Florida at Germain Arena. Scott Merritt added 25 points and Seth Doliboa added 17 points of the bench for Columbus. For the Flame, Darius Rice tallied 23 points and Kirk Haston recorded his third double-double in as many games, scoring 20 points and bringing down 10 rebounds in the loss.

Florida began the game shooting lights out, connecting on 51.2% from the field in the first half and took a 58-49 lead into halftime.

The Riverdragons then used runs of 10-0 and 6-0 in the third period, outscoring the Flame 34-20 and gained an 83-78 lead after three quarters. The Riverdragons shot 55% in the third period and played tough defense, holding Florida to 33% shooting and forced nine turnovers.

In the fourth quarter, Minard, Merritt, and Doliboa combined for 20 of Columbus' 27 points, helping the Riverdragons earn the victory and remain atop the NBDL standings.

As a team, Columbus (4-1) outscored the Flame in the paint 58-34 and outrebounded Florida 50-37. The Flame forced the Riverdragons into a team and league high 28 turnovers on the evening.

For Florida (1-2), Carl English and Kendall Dartez each scored 17 points while NBDL assist leader Kevin Braswell added 12 more assists to his totals.

The two teams will face each other tomorrow, Friday, December 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena. Remember to bring a stuffed animal to benefit the children affected by the hurricanes and receive a half-priced admission ticket for Friday's game.
