Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The defending National Conference champion Columbus Destroyers and Giant Eagle will once again team up with the Mid-Ohio FoodBank to "Tackle Hunger" in central Ohio. Since Tackle Hunger began in 2004, the Destroyers and their fans have raised enough resources to provide over 33,000 meals to those in need in the Columbus area.
Fans can support Tackle Hunger by bringing non-perishable food items to all Destroyers home games. Those who bring Giant Eagle branded items will receive $3 off a ticket to an upcoming game and a raffle ticket to win autographed Destroyers merchandise that night. Fans can also donate to the Virtual Food Drive online at www.ColumbusDestroyers.com. Donors will receive a voucher for discounted tickets.
Beyond the game-day food collection, the players donate their time for the cause with an annual full-team visit to the Mid-Ohio FoodBank to help pack boxes for distribution to local food pantries. Also, players and team personnel will serve meals at Faith Mission throughout the year.
This year, Destroyers quarterback Matt Nagy has pledged to personally donate $50 to Children's Hunger Alliance for every touchdown pass he throws during the 2008 season. Nagy and teammates will visit children served by Children's Hunger Alliance at various after-school programs throughout the season.
The Destroyers will kick off their 2008 season on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena in the "Battle of the Buckeye State" against in-state and division rival Cleveland Gladiators on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. The Destroyers will unveil their National Conference Championship banner before kickoff.
WE BELIEVE Saturdays are made for football. Single game tickets starting at just $15 are on sale now at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, ticketmaster Ticket Centers, ticketmaster.com and all FSN Ohio Blue Line team stores located at The Mall at Tuttle Crossing, Chiller Easton, Chiller Dublin and Chiller North.
