
Columbus Acquires Curry, Waives Doliboa

GREENVILLE, S.C., January 31 â The Columbus Riverdragons of the National Basketball Development League have claimed guard Ramel Curry from the NBDL Available Player Pool and released forward Seth Doliboa, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone.
Curry, a 6-3, 190-pound combo guard from Cal State Bakersfield ('02) comes to Columbus after starting the 2004-05 season in the American Basketball Association with the Long Beach Jam, where he averaged 22.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Curry also hit 55% of his field goal attempts, 48% from three-point range, and 86% from the foul line prior to his release on January 20.
The 24-year old participated in NBA Summer League action with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004, averaging 7.0 points per game and shooting 48% from the floor during the Southern California Summer Pro League. Curry played the 2003-04 season in the ABA with the Tijuana Diablos.
As a collegian, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native was named an NCAA Division II All-American as a senior at Cal State Bakersfield in 2002. Curry was also named the 2002 California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year, averaging 14.8 points and 2.8 assists for the Roadrunners. Curry began his college career at Fresno (Ca.) Community College, where he averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 assists per contest in two seasons for the Rams.
Curry will be in uniform for the Riverdragons in their next game, Wednesday, February 2, as Columbus opens a three-game road swing to Florida with a 7:30 p.m. EST tip-off versus the Flame at the Germain Arena. He will wear uniform #10.
Doliboa appeared in 23 games with two starts for Columbus. The 6-8 rookie from Wright State averaged 20.2 minutes, 6.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 38% from the field and 75.5% from the free throw line.
The first-place Riverdragons (15-8) will look to return to the win column Wednesday night versus the Flame. Columbus has dropped seven of its last eight games and has seen its lead shrink to one-half game over the second-place Asheville Altitude (15-9) in the NBDL standings. The Dragons face the Flame (7-18) in match-ups on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at the Germain Arena. Tip-off times for all three games are set for 7:30 p.m. EST. All the action can be heard live on WHAL 1460 AM in Columbus and Phenix City.
The Riverdragons will return home on Monday, February 7 to host the Roanoke Dazzle (13-9) at the Columbus Civic Center with tip-off set for 7:00 p.m. EST. It will be Youth Basketball Night, as all youth basketball teams from around the Chattahoochee Valley are invited to enjoy an evening of NBDL basketball with the Dragons.
