FIREFLIES SUSPENDED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE THIRD: The Columbia Fireflies and Myrtle Beach Pelicans suspended their game in the bottom of the third inning with two outs Tuesday night at Segra Park. The score was 0-0 and Henry Ramos was on first base when swift rain began and then the tarp came onto the field. The game will resume tomorrow at Segra Park at 5:35 pm as part of a doubleheader and gates will open at 5 pm. The second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one and will be seven innings.

STERLING STARTERS: The Fireflies starting rotation has the top ERA in Minor League Baseball this season. The group has recorded a 23-21 record combined with a 3.59 ERA over 441 innings through the first 100 games of the season. Fireflies starters have 435 strikeouts and have held opponents to a .238 AVG on the season. The Hartford Yard Goats have the second-best mark in MiLB with a 3.81 through 467.1 innings pitched this season.

LUMINOUS LOMBARDI: Michael Lombardi has been a master of the strikeout this season. Sunday, he etched two strikeouts over four innings of work. Lombardi is third in the Carolina League in strikeouts with 101 strikeouts. That's the seventh-most strikeouts for a Fireflies pitcher in a single season in franchise history. Tony Dibrell owns the Fireflies single-season strikeout record at 147. The last Fireflies player to notch 100 strikeouts in a season was Felix Arronde, who struck out 103 in 2024.

THE GAMBLER: After a slow start to the season, Sean Gamble has turned the page and become one of the top hitters in the Fireflies lineup. Since May 21, Gamble is hitting .277 across 53 games. He leads the team in OBP (.399), runs scored (39) and stolen bases (21) and is second in OPS (.825) during the stretch. He is also one of five Fireflies to notch at least five homers since May 21.

RONI'S RUNS: After a homer in the fifth to give Columbia a 5-1 advantage, Roni Cabrera has now scored in six-consecutive games. The streak began July 24 vs Kannapolis. On the stretch, Cabrera is hitting 8-20 (.400) with one run each game and four walks. It is tied for the second-longest runs scored streak for the Fireflies this season. Cabrera also owns the season-best. He scored in seven-consecutive games from June 6-16.

ON A PLATTER: This week, the Fireflies pitching staff has spun a 9.62 ERA over their four games with Augusta, which is the second worst mark in the Carolina League. Hill City has a 9.64 ERA in an 0-4 start to the week. Over the series, Columbia has allowed 39 runs (36 earned) over 33.2 innings off 37 hits and a Minor League leading 41 walks. The Lake County Captains have the second-most walks on the week (39).

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY: The Fireflies have played 2.5 innings of baseball since Friday. The club had Saturday and Sunday's games washed out without a pitch and yesterday played until there were two outs in the bottom of the third inning. At that point, the tarp came on the field and the game was suspended. During that time, the Hickory Crawdads have won three games, gaining 1.5 games on the Fireflies in the standings.

COMING UP: Saturday night is Bluey at the Ballpark where fans can meet Bluey and Bingo during the game.
