San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Wednesday they have traded catcher Salvador Paniagua to the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League in exchange for future considerations. Paniagua spent all of 2011 and most of last season with York.

The 29-year-old native of the Dominican Republic began the 2012 campaign in York, and then signed with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on July 25. After playing just 15 games for the WhiteWings, Paniagua was traded to the Colts on August 13 in exchange for fellow catcher Michael Pair.

Paniagua hit .333 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 20 games for San Angelo. In 75 games split between three clubs last season, Paniagua batted .261 with 12 homers and 51 RBIs.

Now entering his 10th professional season, Paniagua began his career in the Boston Red Sox organization in 2003. Paniagua spent four years in the Red Sox farm system, and then two in the New York Mets organization. He reached as high as Double-A twice; first with the Portland Sea Dogs, and then the Binghamton Mets. Both teams are members of the Eastern League.

Paniagua has a .261 career batting average with 87 home runs and 358 RBIs in 601 games.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who will play their 14th season this year. For more information or to purchase season tickets, contact the Colts' front office at 94-COLTS.
