
Colts Take Two from Vaqueros

San Angelo, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts wrapped up spring training with an exhibition doubleheader sweep of the Las Cruces Vaqueros.
In game one, the Colts rallied from a 4-1 deficit by scoring the next eight runs en route to a 9-5 victory. Second baseman John Wagle led the way by going 3-3 with a triple, two singles, and four RBI. Right fielder Adam Hale drove in three runs while going 1-3, and left fielder Jeff Sakowski hit the game's only homer with a solo shot to left to lead off a five-run fifth for the Colts.
Caleb Rodgers started the game for San Angelo by going four innings. Scott Crook, Tyler Blum, and Efrain Silva each pitched one inning of relief and combined to allow only one run to close out the win for the Colts. Crook was credited with the win by pitching a scoreless fifth.
Game two saw the Colts jump on Las Cruces starter Gorman Romero by scoring four runs in the first two innings, then hung on for a 6-5 win. Designated hitter Jason Landreth highlighted a four-run first inning with a three-run, bases clearing double. The Colts would add two more runs in the second on a two run single by centerfielder Ronnie Gaines, which gave the Colts a 6-0 lead. John Wagle continued his good work by going 3-3 in game two, with two runs scored. For the doubleheader, Wagle went 6-6 with three singles, two doubles, a triple, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk.
Patrick Lawler started and went four solid innings for the Colts, allowing no earned runs on two hits while striking out three. Matt Chutchian got the win by tossing a scoreless fifth inning, and Bryan Heaston got the save by pitching a scoreless seventh.
The Colts will have the day off tomorrow in preparation for their season opener on Thurday against the defending UBL Champion Amarillo Dillas. First pitch is at 7:05 and the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a magnetic schedule courtesy of Double Dave's. Thursday is also Thirsty Thursday at Foster Field as fans can purchase draft beer for just $1 throughout the evening.
Also, the Colts will close out their two-game series against Amarillo with a Fireworks Night presented by First Community FCU on Friday, May 28. The game is set for 7:05 with the fireworks show to follow afterward.
