San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX--After being sloshed out the night before, the Colts and Dillas would battle in a doubleheader with the pitching matchups stealing the show. In game one of the doubleheader, Dave Therneau and Marcos Castillo locked horns and through 4 innings, it was an offensive stalemate with neither team able to accomplish much. The skies would then open, causing a 51 minute rain delay. The Colts elected to bring in a new pitcher, as Chad Johnson would take over. After striking out the 1st man he faced, Chad would allow back to back hits to get the Dillas on the board 1-0. An inning later, Dan meier went deep for his 7th homer of the season, a solo shot to center the gave Amarillo a 2 run cushion. Castillo would sparkle the rest of the evening, as he'd finish up the 2-hit, 7 inning complete game shutout of San Angelo.
In game two, the Colts faced yet another top twirler in Jason Stockstill while the Colts would go with Mike Henry. Neither would disappoint as Henry would allow an early unearned run to put the Dillas on the board, but would counter with a 2 run frame thanks to a Joe Gilbert RBI double, and newly acquired catcher Andrew York would chip in with a sac fly. Amarillo would get another run in the 4th, thanks to an error to tie it up, but that tie would be short lived as Sean Bischofberger would blast his 2nd homer of the week to reclaim the lead. The following frame, the Colts bats would explode as they knocked the starter Stockstill out of the game with a 6 run inning. In that frame, the Dillas would commit 3 costly errors that would allow a total of 4 unearned runs to cross the plate. The Dillas notched runs in the 6th and 7th innings but it would not be enough as they'd fall in the 2nd game of the twinbill by a final of 10-4. Tony James would also homer for San Angelo, putting him at 10 on the season. Henry would go 6 innings for the Colts, striking out 8 and allowing just 1 earned run in the process. Bischofberger would lead the Colts with a 3 hit barrage while the Dillas had multi-hit evenings from Matt Mann and Asdrubal Oropeza.
