San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- For the second time this season, the Fort Worth Cats swept the Colts in a doubleheader Tuesday night. The Cats defeated San Angelo 6-4 in game one, and then completed the sweep with a 12-5 victory in game two at Foster Field.
The Colts took a 2-0 lead in game one, but it quickly evaporated in the fourth inning. Cats' left fielder Chad Gabriel and first baseman Jose Ruiz hit back-to-back singles and then scored on an RBI double and a Colts' fielding error, respectively.
Fort Worth took the lead in the sixth, courtesy of a pair of RBI ground outs by designated hitter C.J. Beatty and right fielder R.J. Harris. Colts' reliever Chris Weast (0-2) surrendered the go-ahead run and took the loss. He allowed two runs on two hits in one inning.
Cats' starter James Giulietti (1-1) allowed four runs, three earned, on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Reliever T.J. Bozeman recorded the final out to collect his third save.
The Cats never trailed in game two. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, and the Colts had no response.
Fort Worth sent 12 men to the plate that inning, stringing together four base hits and four walks. Colts' starter Chad Nading lasted just 2/3 of an inning before getting pulled in favor of reliever Reece Cross.
Nading (0-1) allowed all six runs and took the loss.
The Colts cut their deficit down to 8-4 with a two-run fifth inning. Shortstop Landon Camp hit a home run that scored first baseman Daryl Jones. It was Camp's third homer of the year. Centerfielder Ronnie Gaines also homered in the seventh, his second of the season, but it was too little too late.
Cats' starter Steve Barnes (3-0) picked up the win, striking out seven batters and allowing four runs in five innings of work.
The losses drop San Angelo (9-10) below .500 for the first time this season. Meanwhile, the doubleheader sweep improves Fort Worth to a league-best 14-5.
The Colts are off Wednesday and then begin a four-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners on Thursday evening at Foster Field. It will be a $1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite. Gates open at 6:05, and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
