San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas---The San Angelo Colts have signed two new players. Brian Nichols, a United League journeyman first baseman, who has played for four different ULB teams and former Angelo State infielder, Shan Sullivan, who was drafted by the Dodgers last year.
Nichols is a career .299 hitter, with 99 RBI in 152 games played, in his two ULB seasons. The Alabama State graduate spent most of last season with the Harlingen White Wings batting .291 with 46 RBI in 65 games. Late last season, Nichols was traded to the Alexandria Aces where in thirteen contests he batted .385, scored twelve runs and drove home eleven.
Manager, Doc Edwards, has high praise for Nichols and the way he plays the game.
"He's got tremendous power and he can fly. The first time I saw him I thought he should be the running back for the Dallas Cowboys; the way he runs, his speed, and the way his body is built. I like the way he plays the game. He only plays wide open and I've never seen him loaf in three years."
Sullivan spent 18 games at third base in Rookie ball last year. In 46 plate appearances the right-handed hitter batted .065 with one homer. In 2008, with ASU, the infielder had a breakout season. He hit .402, led the team with 74 RBI, and was second in doubles (23) and runs scored (61).
"As far as Sullivan, I saw him play college ball," said Edwards. "Anybody who is signed by the Dodgers must be a talent."
