Colts Lose Second Straight Game

San Angelo Colts News Release


Harlingen, Texas --- The Colts led 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, but ended up losing to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 5-2, Friday night at Harlingen Field.

Rio Grande Valley tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, and then scored three runs in the eighth to come from behind and claim victory. Pinch runner Jacinto Cipriota scored the tying run. Then in the eighth, second baseman Romulo Ruiz scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by catcher Salvador Paniagua.

After tying the game at two as a pinch runner, Cipriota came to the plate in the eighth as the designated hitter and crushed a two-run homer into left field. It was Cipriota's second home run of the year, and it scored Paniagua.

Colts' starter Logan Williamson (7-3) was terrific through the first six innings. However, the WhiteWings scored four runs in his final 1 2/3 innings, thereby handing Williamson his second consecutive loss.

Centerfielder J.J. Sherrill drove in the only two runs for San Angelo. In the third, he hit his second home run of the year. It was a solo shot into left field. Sherrill then hit an RBI double into deep centerfield that allowed shortstop Danny Hernandez to score all the way from first.

WhiteWings' starter Erinzon Bautista left the game trailing 2-1, but ended up with a no decision. Reliever Ricardo Estevez (1-0) earned the win, tossing two scoreless innings. Closer Nick Lenzendorf pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save of the year.

The win improves the WhiteWings to 42-31, while the loss drops the Colts to 37-37. This series continues Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

San Angelo returns home on August 18 to play the Abilene Prairie Dogs. It will be the Vegas Fan Fly Away, sponsored by Midland International Airport. One fan will win two tickets to Las Vegas, courtesy of Midland International Airport. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
