San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX---The United league announced their annual post season awards. Although 2010 did not bring the Colts the championship, the ULB did recognize San Angelo with several titles in the post-season awards. The awards included Broadcaster, Franchise, Surface, and Newspaper of the Year. "Even though we fell a little short of bringing a championship back to San Angelo it is gratifying to receive recognition for the job the rest of our staff does. From the tickets sellers to the concession workers this is the best staff I have had here in San Angelo", said Colts General Manager Mike Babcock.

The Colts received Franchises-of-the Year honors. San Angelo drew over a 100,000 for the fourth consecutive season, a great achievement with the town of San Angelo having a population of about 100,000, which means the Colts averaged at least everyone in town going to a game at least once. The Colts brought in 112,164 total fans this season, the third largest attendance in their history, the most since 2001. "I would also like to thank our fans, if 112,000 plus people would not have shown up, there is no way we could have achieved this award", added Babcock. San Angelo averaged 2,336 at 48 home games this season. The Colts also brought a whole new dimension to Foster Field this season, bringing in a brand new state of the art video scoreboard the largest one in West Texas.

Behind the mic, play-by-play announcer Ira Liebman "Voice of Colts" was named Broadcasters-of-the-Year in the ULB. Liebman who worked the inaugural year of the ULB in 2006 returned to the ULB for his second season after broadcasting at Triple-A with the Sky Sox in the PCL, as well as doing some work for Major League Baseball representing Team Australia as their Media Liaison Officer in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. "I really feel our broadcast here is of major league quality", added Babcock. Ira the Colts Director of Media/Community Relations and Broadcasting just finished his sixth year of professional baseball. "It's really a great honor to be recognized by your peers and feel this is an award for all the fans who were dedicated listeners in the park, on the radio, and over the internet both at home and on the road", said Liebman.

San Angelo also won the playing Surface-of-the-Year which rewarded the year round efforts of Colts Groundskeeper Drew Caraway. Caraway has the challenge of all the games played locally on the field which includes charity outings, high school, Angelo State, as well as all of the Colts home games. "Drew has done a great job with the field this year. He has been able to keep up the field with the extreme weather conditions we face day-to-day here in West Texas", said Director of Stadium Operations Michael Clark.

The San Angelo Standard-Times also received the ULB Newspaper-of-the Year honors with their continued coverage of San Angelo's professional baseball team. "As always the San Angelo-Standard Times did a great job in covering the team on a daily basis both on and off the field", said the Colts GM.
